BRIGHT AS THE SUN, FAIR AS THE MOON

A HYMN FOR THE SUNDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF THE ASSUMPTION

Bright as the sun, fair as the moon,
She reigns, who held within her womb
The Word made flesh, God’s Son made hers,
To whom the angel host defers.

Night is not dark where she stands bright,
The woman robed in living light,
Crowned with the stars, who served on earth
The Word to whom her faith gave birth.

O God, we read by her love’s flame
The Word in whom we sing thy name;
We bow before thy majesty,
One holy, threefold Mystery.  Amen.
